Supporting Every Student's Academic Journey

At Loyola Academy, we are committed to nurturing the academic growth of each student through personalized support, purposeful guidance, and a learning environment rooted in Jesuit values. Our Academic Resources are designed to empower students to become confident, self-directed learners who approach their studies with curiosity, resilience, and integrity.

From peer tutoring and study skills workshops to dedicated academic counseling and support for learning differences, Loyola provides a comprehensive network of services that meets students where they are and helps them reach their full potential. Grounded in the Ignatian tradition of cura personalis—care for the whole person—we walk with our students as they discern their strengths, embrace challenges, and develop habits for lifelong learning.

O'Shaughnessy Program

The O'Shaughnessy Program supports freshman and sophomore students in strengthening their literacy and learning skills to thrive in Loyola Academy's college preparatory curriculum. Admission to the program is determined through a review of entrance exam results, junior high academic performance, standardized test scores, and, when applicable, psycho-educational evaluations.

Magis Program

The Magis Program is an intensive, short-term academic intervention that supports students experiencing significant academic challenges while helping them develop the organizational, study, and self-management skills needed to succeed as independent learners. Magis, meaning “more,” reflects the program’s focus on providing additional structure, supervision, and support through collaboration among teachers, the Magis resource teacher, and school administrators. Loyola Academy expects parents and guardians to partner with the school in supporting recommended interventions; for more information, please contact your student’s school counselor.

From brainstorming and thesis development to refining structure and polishing final drafts, students can receive individualized guidance at any stage of the writing process. The lab is staffed by Loyola English teachers.

Faculty Support

Faculty from a variety of departments are available in the Academic Drop-in Center throughout the school day to provide academic support in their subject areas.

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring is available to all students and offers support in any subject. Tutors are trained to assist with coursework, clarify concepts, and encourage academic growth. Tutoring may be accessed on a drop-in basis or scheduled regularly, depending on student needs. Research shows peer tutoring can enhance academic performance, retention, and engagement for both the student and the tutor.
