Supporting Growth Through Structure, Reflection, and Purpose
Loyola Academy is committed to accompanying students at every stage of their academic journey. The Magis Program reflects this commitment by providing intentional, individualized support for students in need of focused academic intervention. Grounded in the Jesuit ideal of magis—the call to strive for more—the program challenges and supports students to grow as learners who are disciplined, reflective, and capable. | ![]() |
| How It Began |
| The Magis Program was developed in response to the needs of students who benefit from additional structure and guidance during periods of academic difficulty. Rooted in Loyola’s mission to form the whole person, the program recognizes that challenges in the classroom are opportunities for growth when met with the right support, care, and accountability. |
| Who Can Benefit? |
The Magis Program is designed for students who are experiencing significant academic challenges that impact their ability to meet course expectations independently. These challenges may include difficulties with organization, time management, study habits, or maintaining consistent academic performance. Students are typically recommended for the program through a collaborative process involving teachers, counselors, and administrators. |
| How Does It Work? |
The Magis Program provides structured, short-term academic support tailored to each student’s needs. Students work closely with the Magis resource teacher to:
Regular monitoring and check-ins ensure that students are making progress and adjusting strategies as needed. |
| A Team Approach |
Support within the Magis Program is collaborative and holistic. The Magis resource teacher partners with classroom teachers, school counselors, and administrators to ensure alignment and consistency in expectations and support strategies. Parents and guardians are essential partners in this process. Ongoing communication between school and home helps reinforce expectations and provides students with a unified network of support. |
Building Toward Independence
While the Magis Program provides increased structure and guidance, its ultimate goal is to help students become independent, self-directed learners. Through intentional reflection and skill-building, students develop the habits and confidence needed to succeed beyond the program.
This process reflects Loyola Academy’s broader mission: forming young people who are not only academically prepared, but also self-aware, resilient, and committed to continuous growth.
