Visual Arts

At Loyola Academy, the Visual Arts program empowers students to explore creativity, develop technical skills, and discover their unique artistic voice. Through studio work, design projects, exhibitions, media production, and the study of art and visual culture, students learn to communicate ideas, solve problems, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.

Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, the Visual Arts program encourages curiosity, reflection, and creative expression while helping students build confidence, discipline, and critical thinking skills. Whether creating artwork, designing innovative solutions, producing visual media, or studying the history of artistic movements, students are challenged to see the world from new perspectives and use their talents to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Studio Arts

Loyola Academy's Studio Arts program provides students with opportunities to explore a wide range of artistic media while developing technical skills, creative confidence, and personal expression. Through experiences in drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, and portfolio development, students learn to communicate ideas visually and thoughtfully respond to the world around them.

Designed to support artists at every level, the program encourages experimentation, problem-solving, reflection, and the development of an individual artistic voice. Opportunities to connect artistic practice with service, social justice, and contemporary issues further challenge students to use creativity as a means of inquiry, expression, and impact.

Design & Innovation

The Design & Innovation program challenges students to combine creativity, technical skill, and design thinking to solve real-world problems. Through experiences in architecture, graphic design, fashion design, and digital visualization, students learn how ideas move from concept to creation while exploring the relationship between aesthetics, function, and human experience.

Using both traditional and digital tools, students develop skills in visual communication, model making, creative problem-solving, and project development. The program encourages students to think like designers—examining how the spaces, products, and visual experiences that surround us can influence communities and improve everyday life.

Photography & Media Arts

Photography & Media Arts empowers students to tell compelling stories through images, film, and digital media. Through photography, filmmaking, editing, and visual storytelling, students learn both the artistic and technical aspects of creating meaningful content for a variety of audiences and platforms.

Using professional equipment and industry-standard software, students develop skills in composition, lighting, image manipulation, cinematography, sound design, and post-production. Whether capturing a powerful photograph or producing an original film, students learn to communicate ideas with creativity, purpose, and impact.

History & Visual Culture

Art History & Visual Culture invites students to explore the story of humanity through art, architecture, and design from cultures across the globe. Through the study of artistic movements, historical traditions, and contemporary visual culture, students gain a deeper understanding of how creative expression reflects and shapes societies.

Through discussion, analysis, research, and critical inquiry, students develop the skills to interpret visual culture while making connections between artistic works, historical events, and modern issues. The program encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts and the diverse perspectives they represent.
