Science
The Science Department inspires students to explore, question, and discover the world around them through rigorous study and hands-on investigation.
Whether following an integrated science sequence or a traditional pathway in chemistry, biology, and physics, students develop the analytical skills, scientific literacy, and intellectual curiosity needed to engage thoughtfully with an ever-changing world. With a wide range of electives and Advanced Placement courses, students are encouraged to pursue their interests while building a strong foundation for future study and innovation.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through laboratory experiences, co-curricular opportunities, and the unique resources of the Theodore G. Munz, S.J. Campus. From conducting field studies in prairie and wetland ecosystems to competing in Science Olympiad and other academic competitions, students experience science as a dynamic process of observation, inquiry, and discovery.
In Science, students do more than learn how the world works—they develop the curiosity and critical thinking skills to help shape its future.

| Earth and Space Science |
This capstone course combines what students have learned in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology to discover the connectedness between life, the Earth, other planets, stars, and the Universe. Students will discover how our knowledge of gravity, electromagnetism, radioactivity, Chemistry, and Biology can be applied to explain and describe our Universe through computer simulations, hands-on activities, and manipulation of spreadsheets. Earth and space science is a dynamic field of study in which new facts about our Universe are discovered every day. This course is for anyone interested in discovering how the Universe was formed and how we know what we know about space. |
| Maker Technology |
| This course introduces students to the convergence of science, technology, and creativity. As a project-based class, students will build projects while developing their understanding of the principles and practices of coding, mechanics, and electronics. Students will learn solid modeling and 3D printing as a tool to develop parts for projects while using engineering practices that allow students to design and build circuits, and code microprocessors to build projects that interact in the world. |
| Advanced Placement Chemistry |
This college-level course contains chemistry content taught to engineering, science, and medical majors. Students receive a foundation in stoichiometry, gas laws, atomic structure, bonding thermodynamics, kinetics, acid-base, equilibrium, and oxidation reduction. Students are required to take the national AP exam at the end of the course. Prerequisites include Physics and Chemistry. |
