Fine Arts
The Fine Arts Department invites students into a dynamic process of creativity, reflection, and growth.
Rooted in Jesuit tradition and the formation of the whole person, our programs in visual art, music, theater, and dance cultivate imagination, discipline, collaboration, and courageous self-expression. Through sequenced courses and performance opportunities, students develop both technical skill and artistic voice—learning to see the world more deeply, communicate with clarity and beauty, and engage diverse perspectives through creative practice.

| AP Studio Art and Design |
This course follows the standards and guidelines of the College Board’s review of student portfolios. Students have the option of producing a drawing, 2D or 3D portfolio for submission to the College Board for portfolio scoring and the potential of earning college credit. Students develop a line of inquiry and this artistic investigation becomes the basis of their portfolio. The submitted portfolio must demonstrate synthesis of ideas, materials and processes through practice, experimentation and revision. The documentation and preparation of the portfolio is a component of this class. The course is open to juniors and seniors who have taken an introductory level art class or portfolio review and approval of their teacher. Students are required to submit a portfolio to the College Board at the end of this course. |
| Ceramics |
| Students in this year long foundational ceramics class will learn the techniques of wheel throwing, hand-building, extrusion and assembly in the context of making idea driven work where they practice employing their own artistic voice. Students will learn the material science of ceramics, firing processes and glazing techniques. |
| Honors Chamber Singers |
| This advanced choir specializes in small-ensemble choral music being performed in top concert halls today. Chamber Singers participate in competitions and music festivals each season. Membership in Chamber Singers is by audition for highly motivated singers who have shown dedication and achievement in Loyola’s choirs. This course may be taken during the sophomore year in lieu of Physical Education. |
| Theatre Experience |
| This course is open to students in grades 9-12. Students actively explore the communicative art of live theater. Areas of concentration include acting, theater history, theater appreciation, technical theater, theater production, and play writing. Students participate in group projects that stress the collaborative aspects of the theater arts. This course may be taken during freshman or sophomore year in lieu of Physical Education. |
