Loyola’s Chapel is a beautiful, open space where students and faculty can find a moment of solace or quiet prayer. Daily Mass, open to all community members, is offered before the start of the school day. The Chapel seats over 200 which is why it’s also a popular space for guest speakers and presentations throughout the school year.

STEAM Lab

In recent years the science curriculum at Loyola has undergone a review process to update teaching and learning methodologies and align course offerings with the current demand for more experiential and integrated learning. A 21st-century laboratory space was completed in January 2019 and features a flexible classroom think tank equipped with an interactive SMART board and mobile hexagonal desks for enhanced collaboration and problem solving. A new lineup of courses—including filmmaking, robotics, engineering design, and entrepreneurship—will give students opportunities to dig deeper into STEAM and make connections across different fields.

Maker Space

The maker space is a communal hub for project-based learning to support the STEAM disciplines at Loyola. Equipped with power sources, 3D printers, a programmable robot called Sphero, and other tools and materials to make learning collaborative and hands-on, the maker space will provide new opportunities for Ramblers to become creators and innovators. For example, in the spring of 2020, the Loyola Academy partnered with the Wilmette Police Department to print hundreds of mask straps to help keep police officers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Classrooms at Loyola are designed to provide students with a comfortable learning environment equipped with the technology and equipment necessary to bolster the rigorous college prep curriculum. With few exceptions, classrooms are organized by wing according to academic subjects such as math, English, and Theology.

Library

Loyola’s library helps students develop proficiency in utilizing a variety of print and digital resources to advance their own thinking, learning and understanding. To support students as they navigate our collection of over 12,000 books, 15 magazine and newspaper subscriptions and 20 of online databases, the library provides tools such as research assistance and class instruction. Through the library, students at Loyola develop skills to process and interpret information and ideas for successful research in their current courses and in preparation for college study.

A renovation in 2017 brought an updated look and feel to Loyola’s student center, which features comfortable furniture for students to relax and study; a grab-n-go cafe with everything from handmade lattes to paninis and ice cream; and high-top table spaces for group work.

Quad

Just outside the Student Center doors, the Quad is a beautiful outdoor space on the north end of campus where students enjoy eating lunch with friends on picnic tables and outdoor activities such as frisbee, spikeball, touch football and more. Events like fall spirit rallies and the Earth Day Fair in the spring are just two examples of annual events that take place on the Quad each year. Ample sunshine and a canopy of trees make it a perfect retreat before, during, or after school.

Performing Arts Center

Arts matter for every student at Loyola. We believe that all students learn better in a school that is pulsating with arts. As the Loyola Community celebrated the opening of our new pool and piazza in 2019, we are moving ahead with the next major campus improvement: A theater for the performing arts that will feature a 28,000-square-foot building with integrated indoor and outdoor performance spaces; a 550-seat proscenium theater with a balcony and orchestra pit; a fully equipped scene shop; a green room; makeup and dressing rooms; and more.

Norcross Aquatic Center

Loyola's brand new Norcross Aquatic Center was opened in August 2019. This bright and spacious two-story natatorium features eight lanes, a moveable bulkhead, a wet classroom, two one-meter springboards, wide deck space, a 294-seat spectator gallery with retractable bleachers and a Colorado Time System scoreboard.

Inspired by the St. Ignatius Piazza in front of the Church of St. Ignatius in Rome, our new Piazza serves as a hub for Rambler life—adding a new gathering space for students, art exhibits, concerts and more—and sets the stage for a renaissance in arts programming that will culminate in the construction of a new theater for the performing arts.

Hoerster Field and Sachs Stadium

In June 2020, a new turf and shock pad were installed on Hoerster Field at Sachs Stadium, enhancing the field’s safety and performance for Rambler athletes and marching band members. Adjacent to the football field are Loyola’s tennis courts, which received an updated look and feel in the summer of 2017.

Loyola’s 60-acre Munz Campus features athletics fields, a prairie, a river and wetlands preserve area. It is located 3.4 miles from our Wilmette campus and is reachable by car in just 10 minutes. Student athletes use our Munz Campus for practice and competition in soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, baseball, softball, and cross country. Loyola’s Science Department has overseen the development of the natural area surrounding the athletic fields.

Host to Loyola Academy pep rallies, basketball games, Hall of Fame celebrations and more, the East Gym has been home to countless Rambler champions over the years.
