Loyola Crew Closes Fall Season with Five Podium Finishes at Blake Haxton Regatta
11/3/2026

Loyola Academy Crew finished its fall season with a strong showing at the Blake Haxton Regatta in Columbus, Ohio, where five Rambler boats placed in the top three. Loyola raced against local rivals New Trier, Evanston and St. Ignatius, along with more than 20 teams from across the Midwest.
Top-three finishes:
- Men’s First Varsity Eight: third place
- Women’s First Varsity Eight: second place
- Women’s Second Varsity Eight: second place
- Women’s Third Varsity Eight: third place
- Women’s Fourth Varsity Eight: third place
The Men’s First Varsity opened the day with a great race, taking the bronze medal in a field of 23 men’s crews. The Men’s Second Varsity followed with a fifth-place finish out of 16 teams.
On the women’s side, the First Varsity placed second out of 20 crews, finishing just a few seconds behind Midwest powerhouse Cincinnati Juniors Rowing Club. The Women’s Second Varsity also took silver, losing a close race to Cincinnati Juniors in a field of 15. The Women’s Third and Fourth Varsity Eights also raced well, and both came home with bronze medals.
The freshman women and men capped their first season as Rambler rowers with great races. Both crews are well positioned to compete at the national level this spring.
These results come from a season of early mornings, discipline and teamwork, along with the spirit of the magis that shows up in every stroke. Rowing is a sport where no single athlete succeeds alone. Each crew moves forward only when every rower commits fully to the others in the boat, and that is a living picture of what it means to be men and women for and with others. Congratulations to all of our rowers and coaches on an outstanding fall season!
Interested in joining Crew? Students finishing fall sports seasons are invited to an informational meeting with rowers and coaches on Wednesday, November 4, at 3:15 p.m. in the East Gym Balcony.
