Dumbach Hall Commemorated on Loyola University's Lake Shore Campus

On September 13, members of both the Loyola Academy and Loyola University communities gathered to pay tribute to Rev. Henry J. Dumbach, SJ, the Jesuit responsible for purchasing the land that would become Loyola University’s Lake Shore Campus. Before moving to Wilmette in 1957, Dumbach Hall was the original home of Loyola Academy when it opened its doors to 71 young men in September 1909.

Rev. Robert H. Oldershaw ’54, now pastor emeritus of St. Nicholas Parish, presided over a celebratory Mass in the beautiful Madonna della Strada Chapel. A plaque commemorating Rev. Henry J. Dumbach, SJ, and Dumbach Hall, first conceived by William J. Rooney ’54, was presented to the group before concluding Mass. After St. Ignatius’s Prayer for Generosity, Ramblers enjoyed a luncheon at Hamilton’s Pub in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.
