College Counseling Hosts Annual College Fair

On Monday, March 18, Loyola Academy's College Counseling Department hosted its annual College Fair for students and parents to begin the college exploration process. With over 150 colleges and universities and over 600 Ramblers in attendance, Loyola's College Fair remains one of the largest private high school college fairs in the state of Illinois.  Entrance to the fair was staggered to allow juniors and their parents to enter first, optimizing their time, followed by sophomores and their parents slightly later.
Since 2016, Loyola has utilized StriveScan, which makes QR code scanning available for students and institutions. The QR codes eliminate the time-consuming process of filling out contact cards and enable students to focus their time and energy engaging college reps and getting important questions answered.

"Post-COVID, this was the first year we re-introduced the pre-college fair sessions which were generously attended. They included information on financial aid, college and the fine arts, and the service academies," said College Counselor Ms. Kelly Dutmers '98.

"This year we also expanded our rotating presentations from college representatives. This allowed families to see more colleges and not spend as much time waiting in lines," added College Counseling Department Chair Mark Porcaro.

Colleges from across the globe were represented at the fair. Those farthest away in Europe included University College Dublin and University Bocconi. The closest colleges represented included Northwestern University and Loyola University Chicago.

Many thanks to members of Loyola's Torch Club and Insignis who helped welcome college reps to campus; their assistance was an instrumental part of the evening's success.

In 2023, 98 percent of Loyola’s senior class went on to four-year colleges and universities. 20 percent matriculated at Jesuit schools and an additional 9 percent went on to other Catholic colleges. View our Student Profile for more information on the Class of 2023 and academics at Loyola Academy.
