LA wins Jesuit Cup!

The varsity team traveled to XS sports into the City to compete with our fellow Jesuit brothers from St. Ignatius.  Our team focused and played extremely well where it counted.  The afternoon started off well with competitive matches on all five courts.  2 doubles finished first having a difficult time finding their game.  This was the first time they were challenged in fighting themselves to find a strategy that worked and to keep the ball in play.  2 singles finished second with a 2 set victory, so the score was 1-1 at this point in the competition.
1 singles had a tough opponent who got everything back, so it took some real focus and determination to stay in points and be patient.  It was a close battle in reality, but the score did not reflect how many points went to 30 all or deuce.
After 3 matches, we were down 1-2 and needing to win both of the remaining matches to win the meet and lift the cup.
2 singles won the first set, lost the 2nd set in a tie break and won the 3rd set in a super tiebreak!  It was a nail biter, but we stayed steady and pushed through the finish line with aggressive play!
So now it’s 2-2 with one match still being played on STADIUM COURT (our host’s had named it)!  1 doubles was battling for every point.  These were intense points going back and forth with well thought out shot selections and chances taken with success!  LA lost the first set 6-7 in a tiebreak!   They proceeded to rattle off 6 straight games and won the 2nd set 6-0!  They started a 3rd set super tiebreak (first to 10 points) with real momentum and never looked back finishing off their opponents 10-5!  The team, who was watching both the 2 singles and 1 doubles at the same time (the matches were being played next to each other) had just watched 2 singles win and turned around to watch 1 doubles win!  It was amazing!  Congrats Ramblers on your steadfastness and drive to play the best of your ability that day!
