HYG Attends Monarch Chicago Latinx Youth Conference

Over the weekend of November 15 and 16, the Loyola’s Hispanic Youth Group attended the first Monarch Chicago Latinx Youth Group Conference at St. Ignatius College Prep. This two-day conference was for Latinx students from various Catholic high schools in the Chicagoland area to develop their leadership skills, explore their identity and appreciated their culture together.

Each day began with a prayer followed by a keynote speaker and Q&A session. The first day featured Diestefano “DJ” Loma, an advocate for low-income, first-generation college students. The second day featured Alma Anaya, county board commissioner for the 7th district.

Throughout the two days, students had the opportunity to participate in workshops such as Latinx Leadership on Campus, Latinx College Application Process, Las Experiencias de Nuestros Inmigrantes, Family Separation at the U.S. Mexico Border and Latino Art in Chicago.
