International Night Celebrates the Cultures that Enrich the Loyola Community

On Friday, February 27, Loyola Academy welcomed students, families, and members of the Rambler community to the Performing Arts Center for this year’s International Night (I-Night), an annual celebration highlighting the many cultures and traditions represented within the Loyola community. The evening brought together students from Loyola’s heritage clubs for a vibrant program of music, dance, and cultural expression that reflected the global perspectives present on campus.
Guests enjoyed a dynamic series of performances presented by the African American Youth Group, Asian Youth Group, Chinese Club, European Cultures Club, Hellenic Group, Irish Heritage Club, Italian Club, Polish Club, Step Team, and UniDos. Each group shared elements of their cultural heritage through dance and music, offering the audience a journey across traditions and continents.

The evening opened with energetic Latin dances performed by UniDos, including Bachata and Merengue, followed by the powerful rhythms of the Step Team. Additional highlights included a traditional Chinese dance, an Italian Club performance inspired by the Eurovision 2025 winner, and a Croatian folk dance presented by the European Cultures Club. The African American Youth Group performed a West African dance, while the Hellenic Group brought audiences to their feet with the lively Kalamatiano inviting a family member to join in this performance.

Following intermission, the program continued with the crowd-favorite International Night Fashion Show before more cultural performances took the stage. Students performed the traditional Filipino Tinikling with bamboo poles, Polish folk dances, and the spirited Irish jig. The Hellenic Group returned with Pentozali and Zorba dances, while the African American Youth Group presented an East African dance that celebrated movement and storytelling through rhythm. The evening concluded with a colorful folklórico performance by UniDos.

At the end of the program, guests were invited to visit a table to receive a bag of candy representing different cultures—offering a small taste of the traditions celebrated throughout the evening.

Heritage clubs are an important part of student life at Loyola Academy, providing Ramblers with opportunities to celebrate their own backgrounds while learning about the traditions of their classmates. For many students, these clubs become spaces of friendship, cultural pride, and belonging within the larger Loyola community.

International Night stands as a joyful reminder of the richness of Loyola’s community—one shaped by diverse experiences and united by a shared commitment to respect, curiosity, and understanding. Through weeks of preparation, rehearsals, and collaboration with faculty moderators, students brought their cultures to life on stage, inviting the entire Rambler community to celebrate the beauty found in our differences and the unity we share.
