Loyola Academy Presents: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Loyola Academy Performing Arts and Thespian Troupe #4729 performed Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to enchanted audiences on Friday, October 31, and November 1–2. Co-directed by Mrs. Katie Roach and Mr. Geoffrey Arndt, this production transported audiences into the wizarding world created by JK Rowling.
Set 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows Harry’s son, Albus (Max Levin '27), as he follows in his father's footsteps at Hogwarts, the boarding school for witchcraft and wizardry. Albus sets out with Scorpius Malfoy (Jack Hemmila '29), the son of his father's old rival Draco, on an adventure through time to right an old wrong. Although well-intentioned, their journey unravels history, creating alternate realities where darkness once again threatens the wizarding world. A magical adventure about identity, friendship, and forgiveness, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child reminds us that while we cannot change the past, we can shape the future through understanding, love, and hope.
In the show's program, Mrs. Roach acknowledged the enormous group effort of the production writing, "There's magic in every moment someone steps up to solve a problem, in the communal belief that somehow, this massive, impossible dream will come together. When it finally does—when the curtain rises, the lights come up, and the audience takes a breath in anticipation—the spell is cast. And when it is done, the sound of the applause has died, the smiles on the faces of cast, crew, and audience have faded, and the communal experience of taking an emotional journey is now a memory—the spell is complete."
