Varsity Ramblers Conclude a Season of Excellence with CCL Title and State Finals Berth

The Loyola Academy Varsity Boys Golf Team wrapped up an exceptional season marked by teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—qualities that exemplify the Ignatian pursuit of excellence. The Ramblers captured the CCL Championship title, advanced through regionals and sectionals, and earned a spot at the IHSA State Final Tournament. From start to finish, the team's consistent play and depth across the lineup reflected their dedication, unity, and competitive spirit.
CCL Championship — September 22
The Ramblers captured the CCL Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club, carding an outstanding team score of 297 (+9) to finish four strokes ahead of Wheaton St. Francis.

Sophomore Xander Schafer led the way with an impressive 70 (-2) to earn medalist honors. Riekse added a steady 75 (+3), while Duke McGinn '27, Ryan Horn '26, and Ricardo Gonzalez Salles '28 each posted 76 (+4). Senior Danny Burden rounded out the lineup with a 78 (+6).

It was a true team effort, with all six Ramblers recording scores in the 70s—an impressive display of depth, consistency, and competitive spirit.

IHSA Regional Championship — October 1
At the IHSA Regional Championship, the Ramblers finished third overall with a team score of 303, advancing behind New Trier (283) and Evanston (290).

Burden led the team with a steady 72, followed closely by Schafer with a 74. McGinn and Riekse added 78 and 79, respectively, while Gonzalez Salles and Horn each posted 85s.

It was a solid team performance that secured Loyola a place in the next stage of postseason play.

IHSA Sectional Championship — October 6
The Ramblers went on to compete in the IHSA Sectional Championship at Highland Woods Golf Course, finishing 9th overall with a team total of 304 in one of the deepest and most competitive fields in the state. Riekse led the way once again, shooting an even-par 72 to qualify individually for the IHSA State Finals. Burden added a 77, junior Pasha Zabadneh fired a 76, and McGinn and Gonzalez Salles each shot 79, while Schafer rounded out the lineup with an 80.

A Season of Grit, Unity, and Jesuit Character
The Ramblers demonstrated grit, unity, and excellence throughout the season—hallmarks of Loyola's Ignatian athletic tradition. Congratulations to Ben Riekse, who represented Loyola Academy at the IHSA State Final Tournament on October 10–11, where he tied for 71st. We are proud of the entire team for representing Loyola Academy with skill, class, and sportsmanship both on and off the course.
