Loyola Academy Announces 2017 Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award Recipient

Loyola Academy is pleased to announce that the 2017 recipient of the Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award for Distinguished Service in the Cause of Youth is Boys Hope Girls Hope. The organization will be honored at Loyola Academy’s President’s Dinner.
Since 1979, Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) of Illinois has helped academically capable and motivated children-in-need meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered family-like homes, opportunities and education through college. Currently, 100 percent of the BHGH Scholars who graduate from high school go on to college.

Since its inception, BHGH has worked with Loyola Academy as a steadfast partner.

“Loyola Academy has provided substantial tuition assistance to BHGH Scholars, as well as office space for program staff,” says Peter Beale-DelVecchio, the program’s executive director. “Most importantly, Loyola has embraced BHGH Scholars, fully welcoming them into the life of the school.”

Currently, BHGH Scholars participate in football, soccer, band, and the Arrupe Community Service program, as well as the adventure games, bowling and rowing clubs.

Boys Hope Girls Hope will be honored at Loyola Academy’s President’s Dinner on Saturday, November 4, at the Wintrust Grand Banking Hall in Chicago. For tickets, please visit goramblers.org/presidentsweek.

Loyola Academy established the Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award in 1963 to honor those who have provided distinguished service in the cause of youth. The award is named for Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ (1888–1955), who was an example of how one man, born more than a century ago, made a difference in the lives of many young people. Fr. Lord believed in young people, and he believed in ideas and in communication. He worked endlessly with the youth of his day and was regenerated by their vigor and their idealism.
