Parent Student Mass and Day of Service

On April 9, over 260 members of the Loyola Academy community commenced Holy Week in prayer and service.  Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, celebrated Palm Sunday Mass on a beautiful spring morning.
Bill Brandstrader ‘88 spoke of the cooperation and coordination of the students and parents. Adriana Kelly of Catholic Charities then spoke of the needs of those the organization assists, especially during the current state budget crisis. Loyola Academy students assisted in purchasing items well in advance for packages for Catholic Charities Self-sufficiency Program. Following Mass, attendees prepared packages for distribution, and enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by John Trueman.

This event, sponsored by the Fathers’ Network, Mothers’ Club and Campus Ministry with generous donations from the Graduate Parent’s Network, would not have been possible without the many event volunteers and participating families. Also assisting in coordinating this endeavor were:  Bill Brandstrader ’88, Director of Special Events Sophie Streeter and Special Events Coordinator Joan Schniedwind. Additional thanks to David Hollander of Hollander Moving Co. for box donations and Larry Nicholson of MPM Food Equipment Co. for providing the trucks and storage at his warehouse in Wheeling, IL.

We are most grateful to the event chairs Ellen and Bob Largay and co-chairs Martha and Bill Forsyth and Katie and Thomas Tingle.
