The Loyola Academy Hockey Club is pleased to announce Tony Gill, P ’29, as the next Head Coach of Loyola Gold. A respected leader in the Chicagoland hockey community, Gill brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience, along with a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the ice.
Gill’s hockey journey began in Rochester, Minnesota, and continued at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School, where he was mentored by renowned coaches Andy Murray and Tom Ward. He went on to play in the United States Hockey League with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders before continuing his career at the University of Notre Dame under Dave Poulin and Jeff Jackson. Since 2007, Gill has built an impressive coaching résumé, including time with the Chicago Young Americans and, most recently, the Falcons organization, where he coached across all levels and led teams to multiple Central States and State Championships. His coaching approach emphasizes a fast-paced, disciplined style of play rooted in skill development, accountability, and a commitment to excellence.
Gill joins a strong varsity leadership team that includes Aidan Finegan leading Loyola Maroon and DJ LaVarre providing program-wide oversight. Together, they bring a shared vision for strengthening player development and fostering a clear pathway from JV through Varsity. Loyola Academy looks forward to this next chapter for Loyola Gold Hockey, confident that Gill’s leadership will further strengthen a program grounded in growth, teamwork, and the pursuit of magis.
