Senior Named Presidential Scholar Candidate

Matthew Brun ’18 has been selected as a candidate in the United States Presidential Scholars Program sponsored by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and the U.S. Department of Education. Brun joins the ranks of 152 seniors from the state of Illinois to earn this honor.
“Matthew is witty, smart and intellectual,” says College Counselor Traci Flowers. “It has been a true joy to work with him. I admire his incredible work ethic, and he continues to impress me with all of his gifts and talents as a gifted musician, talented mathematician, campaign volunteer, app developer, student leader and man for others.”

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

A forthcoming announcement in April will name approximately 600 students from across the nation as semifinalists. The Presidential Scholar class will be officially announced in May.
