Quarter Finals | 11/11 @ Marist W 30-10
During the quarter finals, the defense played an incredible game with 3 interceptions and 4 turnovers. Safety Jake Gonzalez ’19 had 2 of those 3 interceptions. Sophomore running back Trevor Cabanban made a huge contribution to the game with 183 yards rushing and 2 scores. There were six catches from Quinn Boyle ’18 to Rory Boos ’19—one of them being a 38 yard touchdown pass.
Semi Finals | 11/18 @ Edwardsville W 17-10
The defense also played a key role in the win for the semi finals against Edwardsville as they did the last time Loyola and Edwardsville met in 2014, when the Ramblers came back from being 21 points down to win 29-28 in overtime. In this matchup, linebacker Patrick Daniels ’19 sacked the Edwardsville quarterback. Freshman Nate Van Zelst gained the momentum for Loyola at the end of the second quarter by kicking a 30 yard field goal on his first attempt of the season. Before the half was over, quarterback Quinn Boyle ’18 threw a 16 yard pass to receiver James Joyce ’18. This pass left the Ramblers mere yards away from the goal line and allowed Rhys Logan ’19 to run in for a touchdown. During the second half, Boyle gave Loyola a comfortable lead with a 3 yard rushing touchdown.
Finals | 11/25 IHSA 8A State Championship vs. Lincoln-Way East L 23-14
The Ramblers held their own against the undefeated Lincoln-Way East. The defense of both teams was tough, and there was no score until the end of the second quarter. Highlights include Quinn Boyle’s 15 yard pass completed with a touchdown in the third quarter.
