Five Questions with New Alumni Relations Director Meghan Huffman Brennan ’07

Our alumni network is at a moment of growth, and we are excited to welcome Meghan Huffman Brennan ’07 as the new director of alumni relations. With over 110 years of tradition, more than 24,000 alumni and 22 years of coed education, Loyola is pleased to welcome Meghan as the first woman to serve in this role.
Meghan has been an integral part of the advancement staff for nearly five years—most recently serving as the assistant director of special events. Her successful experience with our community-driven events such as the President’s Dinner and the Ramble make her uniquely qualified to add new life and vision to the day-to-day alumni operations and to build upon the recent successes of the alumni program while working in conjunction with Executive Vice President Dennis R. Stonequist' 90 and Alumni Relations Coordinator Ashley Sanks ’10.

What activities were you involved in as a student at Loyola?
I was a four-year athlete on the Girls’ Lacrosse Team and a proud member of the 2006 State Championship title. I also played tennis, was a Torch Club officer, served on Student Council and was active with the Spirit Club and Life! Be in it! community service program.

Tell us about the journey that led you back to Loyola Academy?
I attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in business marketing. As it had been during my time at Loyola, being a part of community events and programming at Notre Dame was really important to me. I was a freshman orientation leader and was involved in intramural sports, the mentor program and the Super-Sibs service program.

In 2016,  I graduated from DePaul University with an MEd in school counseling. At that time, I was simultaneously working in Loyola’s Advancement Office on special events like the Ramble and the President’s Dinner. I realized that I wanted to continue pursuing my passion for community building, and I decided that there’s was no better place for me to do that than right here at LA!

What do you love about Loyola Academy?
The community. In my role as assistant director of special events, I worked with parents, graduate parents, alumni and students. Seeing so much dedication to Loyola and the mission from these different perspectives affirms for me that Loyola Academy is a very special place. Loyola is like a family.

Do you have a favorite Loyola memory?
Yes—winning the state championship in 2006 for lacrosse. I remember it vividly. It was raining, and we were playing on the field looking over Lake Michigan on Northwestern University’s campus. There was a huge crowd, and it was a pretty close game against Lake Forest High School. They put up a good fight, but I managed to score against them, and in the end we took the title. My teammate Kathleen Dwyer ’07 remains one of my closest friends. Today, Kathleen’s sister Mary “Brennan” Dwyer ’17 and my sister Colleen Huffman ’17 are seniors and teammates on the Varsity Lacrosse Team, which is working toward another state title in June.

In your new role as director of alumni relations, what are you most excited about?
I’m looking forward to working closely with Executive Vice President Dennis R. Stonequist ’90 and Alumni Relations Coordinator Ashley Sanks ’10. Dennis and Ashley have created a ton of momentum in the past few years, and I can’t wait to take programs like the President’s Leadership Council to the next level. I’m working on ways to encourage alumni to take on more leadership roles in the life of the school and more ownership in planning and organizing events—really drawing alumni in. We have so many talented alumni and young alumni leaders in our community, and I’m looking forward to developing that potential.

It’s a great time at Loyola Academy...stay tuned!
