Loyola Academy Students Recognized at 2017 Newhouse Architecture Competition

Loyola Academy’s Architecture Program is proud to announce a number of student achievements as part of the 2017 Newhouse Competition.
Junior Katherine Lestingi took home 3rd place for her model depicting a community center built atop a Chicago River barge.

Seniors Reis O’Donnell and Andrew Bannon received Honorable Mentions for their community centers atop Chicago River barges.

Senior Shane Byrne-Slepicka and Junior Drake Johnston paired up to receive an Honorable Mention for their industrial furniture design of college dormitory furniture.

Junior Robby Star and Sophomore Patrick Voight also entered the contest for the architectural photography analysis of a diagonal street and a model for college dormitory industrial design respectively.

Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) Teen Coordinator Jesse Banwart presented trophies and was accompanied by Lynn Osgood, CAF president and CEO, who is marking her twentieth year with the foundation.
The Newhouse Architecture Competition was originally sponsored by Illinois State Senator Richard Newhouse 35 years ago for under-privileged Chicago youth. The competition grew and became a part of the Chicago Architecture Foundation in 1994. Since then, it has expanded from simple model building to drafting architectural drawings, building models and solving design problems.
