Loyola Academy’s Leadership Development and Mentor program pairs young alumni mentors with current Loyola students to create a space for networking and mentorship within the Loyola family. On Tuesday, January 10, eighty current students and alumni mentors enjoyed a delicious meal together at the program’s annual Dinner in the City event.
The group was treated to a southern Italian meal at Coda di Volpe, Southport’s hottest new restaurant owned by Loyola Academy alumnus Ryan M. O’Donnell ’95. A special menu was prepared for the group:
1st Course (Piattini)
Insalata Mista
mixed chicories, fennel vinaigrette
Arancini
scamorza, sopressata, calabrian aioli
2nd Course (Pizza Napoletana)
Margherita Di Bufala
san marzano tomato, fior di latte, grana padano, basil
Salsiccia
san marzano tomato, fennel sausage, chili flake, garlic, fior di latte, pecorino
3rd Course (Pasta)
Bucatini Pomodoro
fire-roasted cherry tomato, basil, fior di latte
Mortadella & Prosciutto Meatballs
san marzano tomato, basil, grana padano
Dessert
Coffee Budino
chantilly cream, toffee, lady fingers
Apple Crostata
While enjoying their meals, students and alumni connected for the second time this school year—exchanging Loyola stories and discussing college applications, first jobs and more.
"Some of the memorable conversations we had were about comparing the alumni experience with the current student experience," says mentor Nicole Pinelli '09. "We talked about how some classes, teachers and schedules have changed, but some things have stayed the same—like our favorite teachers and dances like the Freshman Luau and Tulip Trot."
As part of Loyola Academy's Leadership Development program, alumni mentors and current students will continue to attend special events together throughout the year including a special alumni shadow day in spring. Each mentor group is dedicated to helping current students navigate through challenges at Loyola Academy, prepare for the college application and transition processes and also network for their careers and areas of interest.
