Loyola Academy Renews Its Status as Apple Distinguished School for Second Term

Loyola Academy has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2016–2018 school year. This honor marks Loyola’s second consecutive distinction from Apple, a renewal of its 2014–16 distinction.  Being honored as an Apple Distinguished School confirms Loyola’s exemplary learning environment through innovation, leadership and educational excellence.
In Fall 2013, Loyola Academy became a 1:1 iPad school, requiring each student to use an iPad and all faculty members to integrate the iPad and iTunes U platform into their courses. Since then, new and powerful digital learning tools have added an exciting and enhanced experience to Loyola’s core Catholic, Jesuit values.

Renewing this partnership with Apple will continue the progress Loyola has made in technology since 2013, and it will present new possibilities. Program opportunities will include Apple Teacher, a new program for educators that offers tips, inspiration, news and learning materials. Teachers will also have access to the Apple Teacher Learning Center, which contains learning resources, programs to brush up skills and abilities to earn badges to test their knowledge. This feature alone will encourage faculty members to continue to grow their professional and technological skills, allowing students to succeed in this digital world.

Since becoming a 1:1 iPad school, Loyola has participated in projects that connect students to the global community. Authoring Loyola’s own iBooks has empowered students to engage in authentic learning experiences such as Revolution H20, which challenged the community to phase out plastic water bottles, and video conferencing with teens in India and Pakistan about Hindu, Muslim and Catholic faiths and values.

With this honor, students will continue to excel in their use of ever-changing technologies while remaining true to the core Jesuit education system.
