Science Olympiad Team Sweeps Regionals and Competes at State

Loyola Academy’s Science Olympiad Team took 1st place at the Illinois Science Olympiad regional tournament, advancing to compete in the state tournament at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on April 16.
 
Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. 
 
“Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year,” explains the organization. “There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications.”
 
Individually, Loyola’s budding scientists also achieved success in content areas ranging from cell biology and hydrogeology to robotics and protein modeling:

On April 16, the team  placed 18th overall at the State Finals competition.
