Loyola Academy Hosts Annual College Fair with over 150 Colleges and Universities

On Monday, March 16, Loyola Academy welcomed more than 1,000 students and families to campus for its annual College Fair, hosted by the College Counseling Department. This year’s event brought together representatives from approximately 155 colleges and universities across the United States and around the world, providing Ramblers with an opportunity to begin or deepen their college exploration in conversation with admission professionals.
Throughout the evening, Loyola students engaged directly with college representatives, asking questions about academic programs, campus life, and the application process. The fair continues to be one of the largest private high school college fairs in Illinois, offering students a unique opportunity to learn about a wide range of institutions—from small liberal arts colleges to large public universities and international programs.

To make the process more efficient and allow for meaningful conversations, Loyola once again utilized StriveScan, a QR code platform that enables students to quickly share their information with college representatives. This technology eliminates the need for paper contact cards and allows students to spend more time learning about each school and forming connections with admission teams.

"Each year, our College Fair reflects Loyola's commitment to thoughtful discernment," said College Counseling Department Chair Mark Porcaro. "Bringing together 165 colleges and universities allows our students to explore a wide range of possibilities while engaging in meaningful conversations about who they are becoming and where they are called to grow. It is an important step in helping students approach the college process with both confidence and purpose."

In addition to the main fair, students and families had access to a broad range of institutions representing many different academic pathways and geographic regions. Colleges and universities from across the country participated, along with several international institutions and specialized programs.

"The College Fair gives students a valuable opportunity to move beyond websites and brochures and engage directly with admission representatives," said College Counselor Liz Riggs. "These conversations help students ask deeper questions, make personal connections, and begin to envision the kind of college environment where they will thrive academically, socially, and spiritually."

The event reflected the strong culture of preparation and discernment encouraged within Loyola's College Counseling program. By engaging early in the exploration process, students are able to reflect thoughtfully on their interests, academic goals, and the environments where they will continue to grow.

College admission representatives consistently remarked on the caliber of Loyola students, noting their thoughtful questions, genuine engagement, and the respect they brought to each conversation—an affirmation of the school's commitment to forming young women and men of intellect, character, and compassion.

"I was able to add new colleges to my list that I had never considered and probably wouldn’t have ever looked at without the college fair and am excited to keep learning more about them," shared Ella Rauworth '27.

Many thanks to the student volunteers from Torch Club and Insignis who assisted in welcoming college representatives and helping the evening run smoothly. Their hospitality helped create a warm and organized environment for guests visiting campus.

Loyola Academy's commitment to thoughtful college discernment continues to be reflected in the success of its graduates. In the most recent graduating class, 98 percent of Loyola seniors matriculated to four-year colleges and universities, including many Jesuit and Catholic institutions. Through events like the College Fair, Ramblers are encouraged to approach the college search with curiosity, reflection, and a commitment to finding the path that best aligns with their gifts and aspirations.
