Boys' Swimming & Diving Finishes 10th at IHSA State Championship
The Loyola Academy Boys' Swimming & Diving team delivered an outstanding performance at the IHSA State Championship, earning a 10th-place finish among the state’s top programs.
The Ramblers were led by a series of strong individual and relay performances. The 200 Medley Relay team of Velizar Filipov '26, Devon Bone '26, Eric Miclea '29, and Tommy Gardy '26 placed 6th with a time of 1:32.97. The 400 Freestyle Relay team—Tommy Gardy '26, Velizar Filipov '26, Cormac McEwen '27, and Devon Bone '26—secured 8th place in 3:06.49.
Individually, Velizar Filipov '26 earned 7th place finishes in both the 100 Butterfly (48.76) and the 100 Backstroke. Devon Bone '26 placed 4th in the 100 Breaststroke (55.49) and 13th in the 100 Freestyle (45.60). Tommy Gardy '26 competed in multiple events, finishing 18th in the 200 Individual Medley and 21st in the 100 Butterfly. Cormac McEwen '27 placed 20th in the 500 Freestyle, while Horia Dobrean-Urzica '27 finished 22nd in the 100 Backstroke.
In diving, Roman Brummel '29 represented Loyola at the IHSA State Diving Championship, competing among the best in Illinois.
