On Saturday, October 5, in a beautiful venue at Moraine Valley College, the Loyola Academy Girls Freshmen/Sophomore (F/S) tennis team won the 2024 Championship in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference (GCAC) Red Division Tournament!
Hearty congratulations to the 20 members of the F/S squad, and a resounding “Thank You” to each of the eight Ramblers—Molly Minahan '28, Ava Bongiovanni '27, Anabelle Hewitt '27, Anita Hrvojevic '27, Hadley McBreen '27, Mary Francie Smith '27, Finley Hotaling '28,and Lucia Alejandra Lujan '28—that competed in the tournament.
The championship remained uncertain as the last match of the day was played with everyone at the tournament watching. The title was decided by the team points earned by each school's players in each position played. The Ramblers had earned 31 team points with three 1st Place finishes at 1st Singles, 1st Doubles, and 3rd Doubles and two 3rd Place finishes at 2nd Singles and 2nd Doubles. At the end of the day, the Ramblers were victorious. We congratulate the entire Ramblers F/S Tennis squad and all the players, from every school, who made the 2024 tournament an outstanding day of tennis, sportsmanship, congenial play & fellowship.
In addition, the JV girls tennis was victorious at the season ending Kearns Classic Tournament hosted at Loyola this weekend. They narrowly edged out New Trier for the title. Varsity competes for the GCAC title on Friday, October 11, at 8:30 a.m., at the XS Tennis Village.
