A Day on the Greens: Ramblers Golf Outing Celebrates Three Decades of Community and Impact

It was a bright, sunny day at North Shore Country Club in Glenview as alumni, parents, and friends of Loyola Academy gathered for the sold-out 30th annual Ramblers Golf Outing on Monday, September 16. As we celebrate three decades of this beloved event, we proudly reflect on its rich history and incredible impact—having contributed over $250,000 to Loyola's Needy Family Fund!
A welcome luncheon awaited guests as they arrived and prepared for a great day on the course. After opening remarks from Director of Development Marty Jennings '98 and a prayer from Loyola Academy President Rev. Gregory J. Ostdiek, SJ, the outing kicked off with a million-dollar shot contest.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to play games and win spectacular prizes. At holes 3 and 8, golfers tried their best to get a hole-in-one and win a Chevy Equinox Electric Vehicle, donated by John P. Jennings '79 and Jennings Chevrolet-Volkswagen; a 2025 Genesis GV70 2.5T, donated by Hanley Dawson IV '86 P '17, '19.

Other popular games on the course included Longest Drive on the 12th hole and Closest to the Pin on the 3rd hole for a chance to win gift certificates to the NSCC Pro Shop, donated by Rambler members of North Shore Country Club. On the 13th hole, golfers were treated to a liquor tasting, compliments of Broda (Alek Szczupak '19) and Two Eagles Distillery (Jesse Zien '00).

Players purchased raffle tickets to win exciting prizes, including two mulligans, a sleeve of LA golf balls, and a chance to win four tickets to the Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds game, donated by Reb Banas '81 P '16, '17, '23; two tickets to the Chicago Bears vs. Seattle Seahawks, donated by Reb Banas ’81 P ’16, ’17, ’23; a Chicago Fire gift basket that included Fire gear and four tickets to the Chicago Fire vs. Nashville SC match, donated by Evan Fay '10; a ZX7 Mk II driver, donated by Jim Thanner P '24; and a Cleveland RTX 6 Black Satin wedge, donated by Jim Thanner P '24.

On the green, the team of Jack Begley ‘09, Ryan Brennan ‘09, Pat Hake ‘09, and Chris Wehmer ‘12 took first place in the gross competition with a four under (140) even-par. On the Peoria handicapping system, Rik Duryea P '25, '27, Patrick Fitzgerald P '14, '27, Erik Foster P '25, and Dan Wrocinski took first with124.

Ziv Lalich '93 had the longest drive on the 12th hole. Brian Ditton was closest to the pin on the 3rd hole. Winners received a gift certificate to the NSCC Pro Shop.

Special thanks to Rambler members of North Shore Country Club for hosting us! Their generosity and efforts provided us with the best possible experience. We would also like to recognize the impact and generosity of our event sponsors, including Gold Sponsor McDermott Construction (Michael D. McDermott P '18, '19, '22, '26) and Silver Sponsor Stanley Spring & Stamping Corporation (Reb Banas '81 P '16, '17, '23). Everyone who supported this wonderful annual event has paved the way for us to reach our goal of providing one year’s tuition for one student at Loyola Academy through our Needy Family Fund!

Mark your calendars for next year’s outing on Monday, September 8, 2025!
