Our Community Gave Back During Family Mass & Day of Service

On Sunday, March 24, nearly 300 Rambler parents and students, including members of Loyola's incoming Class of 2028, participated in the annual Family Mass & Day of Service, sponsored by the Rambler Parent Organization (RPO). The Family Mass & Day of Service has been a Loyola tradition since 2013 and is one of the many ways the Loyola community fulfills its mission to be women and men for others.
Service efforts began in early 2024 when community members were invited to purchase items from carefully curated Amazon wishlists. This year's service day benefitted Bernie’s Book Bank, Madonna Mission, and Loyola’s own tuition-assisted college-bound students. This year, two service events took place before and after a beautiful Mass, celebrated by Campus Ministers Rev. Stan Czarnecki, SJ, and Deacon Arkadiusz Ciemiega, SJ.

Rambler families gathered in the West Gym to work on four service projects that were completed during the event:
  • Packaging dorm room necessities to create college-bound bags for some of Loyola’s own tuition-assisted seniors
  • Sorting through gently used children's books, donated by Loyola families throughout Spring Spirit Week, for Bernie's Book Bank
  • Assembling reading booklets, quizzes, and flashcard packets benefitting Madonna Mission
  • Hosting a neighborhood cleanup with a walk around Loyola's immediate community collecting trash

"Seeing so many families come together for a day of worship and service to others makes me proud to be a part of the Rambler community," says event chair and current parent Liz Somers P '25, '26.

"My hope is that some of the children who benefit from the work of these great organizations will become future Ramblers, continuing our mission of forming women and men for others," adds RPO Co-Leader Andrea Macinia P '22, '24, '27, '27.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful day! We are especially grateful to Fr. Stan and Deacon Arak for presiding over Mass and to our event chairs Liz Somers P '25, '26; Carrie Tarzon P '25, '27; and Mary Trehan P '25.
