Loyola Academy Receives Green Light to Move Forward with Lighting Plan
On Tuesday, January 9, the Village of Wilmette approved an ordinance that grants Loyola Academy with approval to move forward with its proposed lighting plan. The decision comes after the school conducted a months-long process of community outreach and dialogue between school officials and surrounding residents. The process concluded after two Zoning Board meetings (September 6 and October 11) and a vote to approve a drafting of an ordinance by the Village Trustees on November 14.
Loyola Academy extends its gratitude to the Village of Wilmette for its approval of a Special Use Permit that enables the school to install state-of-art, permanent LED outdoor lights on Hoerster Field at Sachs Stadium. Loyola recognizes that the Board’s approval affirms the substantial time and effort invested by members of the Loyola Academy administration to strike a balance between the needs of the Village and the neighboring community.
“Our Jesuit mission inspires us to strive forward, and Loyola Academy continues to evolve,” says Advancement Chief of Staff Marty Jennings ’98, who served as community liaison throughout the approval process. “The conversations with our neighbors have brought a greater understanding of some of the challenges that the neighborhood faces with bigger events at Loyola. I am proud of the collective ways we have worked to mitigate or eliminate some of those concerns throughout this process. Loyola Academy takes great pride in residing in Wilmette and strives to be a good community partner.”
The school wishes to thank the many students, parents, faculty/staff, alumni, and residents who supported its application. “They are a testament to the strength of our school community and belief in the vision of our future,” adds Jennings. “We are excited about the expanded opportunities now possible to engage our community in meaningful ways and we look forward to continuing our role as active partners in the Village of Wilmette.”
Loyola has contracted with industry-leader Musco Lighting to develop a timeline for construction and installation.
