Members of the Class of 1962 Reconnect and Reminisce at Their Reunion
Members of the Class of 1962 gathered to celebrate a special Rambler Reunion over a fun-filled weekend on October 13 and 14. The weekend kicked off on Friday with a beautiful reception in the Mary and Robert ’62 Pasquesi Piazza, where alumni had the opportunity to reconnect and catch up. Ed Meintzer '62 welcomed his classmates and invited them to get on the microphone and share their cherished memories from their time at the Academy.
On Saturday, the Class of 1962 received special recognition between quarters of the Loyola vs. Benet Academy varsity football game (final: LA 41–Benet Academy 7). The '62 grads also enjoyed a VIP tour of the school and a pregame tailgate with classmates.
Following the game, Rev. Theodore Munz, SJ, who served as president of Loyola Academy from 1996–2009 and currently serves on Loyola's Board of Trustees, and Rev. Jim Gschwend, SJ, who served as a scholastic at Loyola during the 1960s, celebrated a special Reunion Mass in the Chapel. Classmates who have passed away were honored in a memorial video that played before Mass. During this time, Ed Meintzer '62 and Jim Quinn '62 read the names of deceased Ramblers who were in the military.
Next, '62 alumni took a class photo in the East Gym to commemorate their reunion before heading off to the official class party in the Mary and Robert '62 Pasquesi Piazza. Director of Alumni Relations Ashley Sanks '10 welcomed alumni and their guests before dinner was served. Alumni enjoyed a beautiful evening with great food and lively conversation. At this point, Tom Blake '62 greeted his classmates and gave a short speech reflecting on his time at Loyola and the fond memories and close bonds he created here. After this, Loyola Academy President Rev. Gregory J. Ostdiek, SJ, gave a State of the School address to '62 graduates in which he discussed his vision for Loyola Academy.
Then, Bob Pasquesi '62 introduced the James M. O'Loughlin & Class of 1962 Scholarship, which '62 classmates set up as part of their fiftieth reunion in 2012. Since its creation, the scholarship has provided one student with the financial means to attend Loyola. This year, the Class of 1962 hopes to grow the scholarship to support an additional deserving student.
We wish to extend our thanks to the Class of 1962 reunion committee: Tom Blake '62 John Byrnes '62 Paul Fieberg '62 John Hamilton '62 Bill Klinge '62 Jim Lyons '62 Ed Meintzer '62 William Metzger '62 Bob Pasquesi '62 Jim Quinn '62 George Sullivan '62 James Toohey '62 Jim Voss '62
