Guadalupe Vazquez '23 Awarded Scholarship to Study in Paris

The Alliance Française of Chicago has awarded Guadalupe Vazquez '23 a McCormick Scholarship to study French language and culture in Paris this summer. In addition to tuition for four weeks of classes at the Sorbonne, the scholarship includes airfare, lodging at the Foyer International des Étudiants, and a stipend for daily expenses.
The scholarship recipients are chosen through a rigorous process. The six senior students who score the best on the National French Contest in the Chicago area are invited to submit essays in French for review by the McCormick committee. They then interview in French and English at the Alliance Française with the entire committee. The two students who perform the best in various categories are selected to spend July at the Sorbonne.

This award was presented to Guadalupe by Constance Fydenlund, chair of the McCormick Scholarship Committee, on June 8 at a formal ceremony held at the Alliance Française in Chicago. In addition to recipients and their families, guests included members of the McCormick Scholarship Committee and previous winners of the scholarship. Loyola Academy French Teacher Cathy Kendrigan was also in attendance.

Guadalupe completed four years of French, including AP French, at Loyola Academy where she was also a three-year member of the French Honor Society. She will be attending Harvard in the fall.
