Loyola Academy Presents: "Alice in Wonderland"

Loyola Academy Performing Arts and Thespian Troupe 4729 performed Alice in Wonderland to delighted audiences on March 24 and 26, with a special matinee for students from Pope John XXIII, St. John Brebeuf, and St. Mary of the Woods Catholic grade schools on Friday, March 24. Based on the classic novel by Lewis Carroll, when Alice falls into a rabbit hole she is thrown into a world of whimsy. As she adventures through this new world, audiences experience the trials and tribulations of growing up.
“Nonsense…pure nonsense… that is what you are in for as you follow Alice down the rabbit hole. Over the decades, this book has been adapted into many forms of entertainment, and each production has its own message to its audience. In our production, as Alice finds her way through the Tulgey Wood, onward to the Queen of Hearts’ croquet match and beyond, we hope audiences see the difficulties, the wonder, the confusion, and the celebration of growing up,” wrote Theater Teacher Mr. Geoffrey Arndt in the show’s program.

Notably, the costuming department worked with Loyola alumna Maria Varela ’16, a textile artist who studied fashion design at Columbia College, to design the Queen of Hearts’ dress. Varela earned her MA in textile design from Bath Spa University in England in 2022.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and production staff who worked tirelessly to bring this wonderful story to the Loyola community!
