Ryan Kunitzer '24 Awarded Scholarship for Immersive Study in Costa Rica
The Selection Committee for the National Spanish Exam Junior Immersion Scholarships has awarded Ryan Kunitzer '24 one of just twelve scholarships for a Spanish immersion program in Costa Rica this summer. This is quite an honor, as there were many qualified applicants. While in Costa Rica, Ryan will do service work and stay with a host family in Monteverde with other winners. He will learn about conservation, ecotourism, and education.
"I am most looking forward to experiencing a new country and the culture there," Ryan says. "From the experience I hope to gain a fuller understanding of what it is like living in Costa Rica and a more rounded view of the world."
"Ryan is an extremely deserving recipient," says Spanish Teacher Mrs. Erica Nathan-Gamauf. “Not only did he score very well on his national exam last year earning him a bronze medal, but as part of his application process he submitted a very well written essay in Spanish.” Ms. Nathan-Gamauf explains that Ryan also submitted his transcript, a letter of recommendation, and a filmed conversation in Spanish.
The program is sponsored by the National Spanish Examinations, a program of the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese). To learn more, click here.
