Gonzaga Christmas Drive Highlights the Importance of Generosity

The holidays are fast and approaching, and Campus Ministry spent the last few weeks organizing the annual Gonzaga Christmas Drive! The drive seeks to emulate the life and service of St. Aloysius Gonzaga, SJ, who worked with the poor and afflicted in Italy during the 16th century. Loyola hosted its first drive in 2010, and it has since become an important holiday tradition at the Academy.
The generosity of our community helped Loyola raise $24,041 to benefit deserving families at St. Thomas of Canterbury and Maternity Blessed Virgin Mary parishes in Chicago.

Ornament Auction | November 9 - November 14
The annual Ornament Auction was a highlight of this year's drive. Through a collaboration between Campus Ministry and the Visual Arts Department, fifty ornaments beautifully decorated by students, faculty, and staff were auctioned off online. To everyone who placed a bid and helped us raise $1,755– thank you!

St. Nick's Mass & Party | December 1
In the spirit of the Christmas Season, the Rambler Parent Organization held its annual St. Nick's Mass & Party, where guests were encouraged to bring Target or Aldi gift cards. The event raised $535, helping to make the holiday season bright for those in need.

In addition, students enjoyed a number of fun ways to give back during the school day including Halloween "boo" grams ($240), a dress down day ($2,998), classroom collections ($18,345), and a bake sale ($168).

One of the aims of the drive is to demonstrate how even small acts of generosity add up to create a big impact. For students, the Gonzaga Drive is a valuable learning experience and an opportunity to put their faith into practice.
