On Sunday, August 28, the Loyola Academy varsity football team will take on St. Xavier (Ohio) in a Jesuit matchup scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN at 12:00 p.m. (CST). The game brings together two powerhouse programs from the Midwest to battle it out at Loyola’s Hoerster Field.
The Ramblers head into the 2022 season on the heels of a stellar performance last year. In 2021, the team went 12–1 overall, which earned them the no. 1 rank in the IHSA 8A division and no. 3 rank in the state. During the shortened 2020 season, Loyola went undefeated, 6–0. The Ramblers have had their sights set on the state championship since 2018, the last time they captured the title.
Loyola's freshman and junior varsity teams will also get to face St. Xavier in games taking place on Saturday, August 27, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. (CST) respectively.
The showdown between Loyola and St. Xavier's varsity team is just one of seven that ESPN will broadcast starting August 25 as part of the Geico ESPN High School Football Kickoff. The annual event, showcasing football programs from across the country, is a great opportunity for these young athletes to appear on the national stage.
