Senior Families Gather to Celebrate 2022 Baccalaureate Mass

On Sunday, May 15, senior Ramblers and their parents or guardians gathered in Loyola Academy's East Gym to celebrate the Baccalaureate Mass, held each spring to honor the graduating class.

After celebrating the Eucharist and in keeping with tradition, the Rebarchak Award winner was invited to address the graduating class. The Rebarchak Award is presented annually to a senior student who has modeled service to the school community. This award honors the memory of Michael Rebarchak, an outstanding member of the Class of 1979, and it recognizes the substantive yet unheralded contribution made to Loyola by a senior student who quietly makes things happen through his or her involvement in and around the school.

During her address, Meghan Oeste, the 2022 Michael Rebarchak '79 Memorial Award recipient, spoke these words: “Well, Class of 2022, we have been handed A LOT. And we’ve faced it together…Across all types of activities, we’ve adapted and made the spirit of after school Loyola keep buzzing. Every Rambler has something they’ve put their all into, whether that be sports, cultural organizations, academic competitions, or the one closest to my heart, the arts. … I’m standing up here because I was recognized as a leader in this class. Now I take this opportunity to recognize all of you … I’m very proud of us, and it’s only the beginning.”

Before the liturgy concluded, Fr. McGrath blessed the St. Ignatius medals that are distributed to each year's graduating class—a cherished Loyola tradition: "Gracious God, your saints and holy ones perpetually give you glory...may this holy image of St. Ignatius Loyola be for all who wear it a source of your rich blessings and a gateway to your loving presence."
