Women in STEAM Students & Teacher Recognized by the National Center for Women & Information Technology
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) announced that six members of Loyola’s Women in STEAM Club received a 2022 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing! Congratulations to Megan Bailey '24 (affiliate honorable mention), Ardyn Chin '22 (affiliate winner), Melanie Clark '24 (affiliate rising star), Addy Needham '24 (affiliate honorable mention), Flor Pallchizaca '23 (affiliate honorable mention), and Michelle Tamas '22 (affiliate honorable mention). This is a tremendous honor for these young women, and the awards demonstrate their interest in technology and their ability to be leaders. In addition, Women in STEAM Club Co-Moderator Mrs. Jan Stoner received an Affiliate Educator Award Honorable Mention. The award recognizes educators for their efforts to promote gender equity in computing.
The NCWIT annually regonzies students and educators for their accomplishments and goals in computing and technology. Over 3,500 high school students and more than 130 educators from all 50 states applied this year, and a virtual award ceremony was held on Saturday, April 9.
The future is bright for these Ramblers whose soaring aspirations reflect their emerging confidence and talent. Megan Bailey '24 aspires to be an aerospace engineer; Ardyn Chin '22 aspires to help the less fortunate through technology; Melanie Clark '24 aspires to be a commercial airline pilot; Addy Needham '24, a biomedical engineer; Flor Pallchizaca '23, a computer scientist; and Michelle Tamas '22, a medical doctor.
