AP Studio Art Students Encounter Ideas and Inspiration at the Museum of Contemporary Art

On Friday, March 25, the AP Studio Art and Design class, taught by Fine Arts Chair Mrs. Colleen Aufderheide, took a field trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Students analyzed works of art on exhibit for synthesis of ideas, materials and processes.  This is the same process of analysis they undertake for their own AP portfolio works of art.
"Students at the AP level benefit from viewing artwork in museums and the community at large," explains Mrs. Aufderheide. "By viewing work in person, students experience a fuller context of the work. It allows them to engage with the materials, imagery, processes and ideas of artists first hand, evoking emotions and thoughts that stir the imagination. When viewing art, students also make connections between their lives and the lives of others conveyed through the artwork."
