Mrs. Becki Wick Receives NEH Grant

Classics Teacher Mrs. Becki Wick has been selected as a recipient for a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to study in one of its summer institutes. The program is titled: "Timeless Parallels: Classical Literature and Veteran Experiences." As a summer scholar, Mrs. Wick will join an impressive group of educators from all over the country representing many disciplines.
The program kicks off on June 1, with an online welcome session, followed a residential portion at the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Day trips to Philadelphia and New York City will take scholars to the Penn Museum, the Met, NYU and the Theater of War before final online sessions at the end of July.

A main focus of "Timeless Parallels: Classical Literature and Veteran Experiences" is the continuity of veteran experience including homecoming, the treatment of veterans, trauma and the role of society in sharing these burdens. The program's primary goal is to create a deeper understanding and appreciation of these issues through studying a group of core ancient texts commonly taught in high school English and Latin classes.
