Athletic Letter of Intent February Signing Day

On Wednesday, February 2, twenty-four Rambler student-athletes signed a letter of intent to play their sport at the collegiate level. Due to inclement weather, the in-person National Letter of Intent Signing Day ceremony was rescheduled to Tuesday, February 15. We congratulate the following student-athletes and their parents!
Field Hockey
Sophia Sohigian, Wellesley College
"Sophia has made many contributions to the Loyola field hockey program. Sophia was a stabilizing force at our defensive center mid spot this season. In stats, this season alone, she contributed 11 points with: 4 goals, 3 assists, and a whopping 138 defensive takeaways.    In leadership she has contributed: 4 years as a Loyola Scholar Athlete, 2 years as a NFHCA Academic All-American, 3 years on Varsity, 2 All-Conference selections First Team, and Tier 1 Conference Selection for our COVID season.
Wellesley is getting a good one!" Coach Misty Brady

Football
Danny Collins, DePauw University
"Danny is the prototype grinder.  He will do anything asked of him.  Whether it was playing all 3 different wide receiver  positions, or blocking a defensive lineman when he aligned as an undersized tight end, he took pride in his efforts and competed at top level.  He was an ultimate competitor on the field, but also the team's most dependable wide receiver.   Danny led the team with 54 catches for 619 yards, scoring 6 touchdowns.  We will definitely miss Danny's versatility and competitiveness." Coach John Holecek

Will Livingston, Johns Hopkins University
"Will is a very versatile lineman because of his toughness, intelligence and athleticism.  This fall he played left tackle because of his size and athleticism, but he played center as a junior because of his smarts. He definitely showed his toughness by playing through significant upper and lower body injuries both junior and senior year.  Will earned first team all-conference with his play, but he is also a great leader, always helping young players with schemes and techniques." Coach John Holecek

Jamie McCabe, Butler University
"Jamie started at the middle  linebacker position for all 13 games.  He worked as hard as anyone on the team to improve his skills and it consistently showed.  He finished second on the team with 115 total tackles with an interception, a sack, a recovered fumble and notched 4 pass break ups.  Jamie is another student athlete with his best football ahead of him as his best performances came at the end of the season." Coach John Holecek

Sam Rushin, Tufts University
"After playing defensive line as a junior, Sam made a seamless transition to outside linebacker for his senior season. Sam started all 13 games at outside linebacker and was equally adept at playing the run and rushing the passer. Sam’s play steadily progressed throughout the season peaking with his performance in the playoffs where he had 5.5 sacks, a caused fumble and numerous minus yardage plays. A quiet, unassuming young man who has the respect of all his teammates, Sam’s best years of football are yet to come." Coach John Holecek

John Michael Talanges, Fordham University
"A 2 year starter at guard who played with a chip on his shoulder, and a captain who led by example, John Michael has all the intangibles you want in a football player.  John displayed courage and toughness playing through multiple nagging injuries in his 2 years on varsity.  Even in weeks where he could not physically practice every day, he would get his mental reps in and act as a coach to whomever was stepping in for him.  Come game day John Michael was always ready to go and earned first team all-conference with his efforts." Coach John Holecek

Michael Williams, Colby College
"Mike was a 3 year starter and captain who was the rock of the defense.   Quick, intense, tough, and instinctive are all adjectives you would use to describe Mike and his ferocious play.  As the nose guard he drew many double teams but if offenses refused to use two blockers on him, he would make them pay.  He was fourth on the team in tackles, had 12 total TFLs, and had 4 QB sacks.  No doubt after his wrestling career he will add size and strength to even be more of a disruptive force in college." Coach John Holecek

Lacrosse
Klaus Anger, Mount St. Mary’s University
"Klaus’s  improvement over the past four years has been incredible.   He has become the top face-off guy in our state and all the credit goes to all his time, effort, and hard work he has put into the face-off." Coach Rob Snyder

Bennett Chow, Amherst College
"Bennett is a four year varsity player.  Bennett is a very selfless player. He was asked to play both attack and midfield for the team. Bennett  is a very skilled player with a high lacrosse IQ.  Bennett works very hard and he is always committed to improving and getting better."  Coach Rob Snyder

Jake Coldwell, Mount St. Mary’s University
"Jake is a three year varsity player. Jake is very hardworking and determined to be a great lacrosse player at the next level.  Has become one of our leaders in our program."

Connor DiTomasso, Hobart College
"Connor is a four year varsity player.  He is an awesome goal scorer.  Connor scored a bunch of huge goals in the state playoffs last season. He is a great teammate and very selfless.  Connor  loves playing lacrosse!!" Coach Rob Snyder

Jameson Eigel, Bates College
"Jameson is a four year varsity player.  Jameson provides excellent energy and leadership for our team.   He has improved every year.  Last season Jameson played his best lacrosse.  Very hard working and had the pleasure of watching him grow up from youth lacrosse to high school.   All-State selection last season." Coach Rob Snyder

Alex Feuer, Roanoke College
"Alex is a four year varsity player. He played a huge role and came up big in the playoffs last year. Alex has  a ton of upside.  He is definitely a student of the position.  Alex is not afraid to try new forms and techniques.  He will be fun to watch when he moves on to play in college." Coach Rob Snyder

Will Maheras, University of Notre Dame
"Will is a four  year varsity player.   Will has superior athleticism and speed.  He works as hard as anyone on the team.  Will is extremely difficult to guard.  There is a reason many Division 1 programs reached out about him.   Will was the best player in the state last year.   All-State Selection last season." Coach Rob Snyder

Cheyne Repp, University of Denver
"Cheyne has a great feel for the game.  He has a very high lacrosse  IQ.  Cheyne shows great composure and patience with the ball in his stick.  He is a very good goal scorer.  Denver is getting a great player." Coach Rob Snyder

Soccer
Alex Ainsworth, Bowdoin College
"Alex  was one of our senior leaders this fall. We asked a lot out of him and earned his way to many accolades in his four years at LA. He always made a positive impact both on and off the field. Best of luck to Alex as he starts his college career at Bowdoin." Coach Justin Dunn

Maya Basan, Illinois Wesleyan University
"Maya is a 4 year Varsity Soccer player.  Maya has made her impact as an outside left back and was a key part of a Rambler defense that allowed only 7 goals last season and posted 15 shutouts in 20 games.  Maya contributed 3 goals and 5 assists last season while making the Ramblers more dangerous on set pieces.  With an unwavering dedication to the team and Rambler Girls Soccer program, Maya has established herself as one of our leaders heading into the 2022 season. Maya's strong work rate in training and games has been an integral part of her success as well as pushing the team forward.  Maya's success on the field, in the classroom and her work in the Loyola community will no doubt translate to a wonderful career at Illinois Wesleyan.  We wish Maya the best as she transitions to the next level as a Titan student athlete in the fall." Coach Shannon Hartinger

Grace Ehlert, Washington University in St. Louis
"Grace is a 4 year varsity player and 3 year Captain of the Ramblers.  Grace led the Ramblers with 18 goals and 13 assists last season, while garnering United Soccer Coaches All Midwest, IHSSCA All State, Chicagoland Soccer All State, GCAC Player of the Year and GCAC All Conference.  Grace approaches every training session and game with the same work ethic, drive and competitiveness, which raises the level of all around her.  Grace excels in the classroom as well and is part of the Student Council, where she works to create a sense of community amongst her peers.  We wish Grace the best as she continues her career at Wash U, where we know she will continue to have an impact on and off the field." Coach Shannon Hartinger

Kaitlyn Kurtz, University of Wisconsin Wisconsin-LaCrosse
"Kaitlyn Kurtz is a 4 year Varsity Soccer player.  As a freshman, Kaitlyn immediately contributed significant minutes as an integral part of our front line.  Her work on and off of the ball contributed to our attack.  After losing her sophomore season due to COVID, Kaitlyn returned for her junior campaign ready to lead the team on and off of the field.  Kaitlyn tallied 7 goals and 6 assists, while starting all 20 games.  Kaitlyn's contributions last season go well beyond her stats as she became a consistent presence in the midfield, working tirelessly on both sides of the ball.  As the team's Rambler Award recipient, Kaitlyn fully embodies being a student athlete at Loyola Academy.  She is competitive and driven to succeed both on and off the field, while creating a positive community on our team.  We are so proud of Kaitlyn and wish her all the best as she continues her career at UW-La Crosse." Coach Shannon Hartinger

Swimming and Diving
Demetri Zemenides, Lake Forest College
"Demetri is a 4 year varsity team member and was an accomplished age group swimmer prior to high school. Demetri is a very versatile swimmer who will be able to contribute in sprint and middle distance freestyle events, as well as butterfly and backstroke. This versatility will help him tremendously in his college career. Congrats, Demetri, on your commitment to Lake Forest!" Coach Mike Hengelmann

Tennis
Patrick Gunnison, Gettysburg College
"Patrick made tremendous strides over his first three years in the tennis program.  His hard work and dedication in the off-season showed as he brought stability to the #1 doubles position.  He has consistent groundstrokes and a strong serve which he uses to break down opponents.  He will certainly continue to improve his game and be an asset to the Gettysburg tennis program." Coach Tom Gordon

Track & Field and Cross Country
Spencer Werner, Texas A&M University
"Spencer begins his final track season as one of most accomplished middle-distance runners in Loyola Academy history. Already a three-time All-State selection, he brings to his racing a rare and impressive combination of speed, endurance, intelligence, and intense will to succeed. Spencer runs like a graceful, powerful thoroughbred, possessing beautiful technical form and a furious kick down the homestretch. With top times of 4:11 in the 1600-meter and 9:11 in the 3200-meter, he raced to an improbable double All-State performance at the 2021 IHSA Finals. Spencer enters his senior competition in 2022 as the dominant athlete in the CCL and one of the top runners in the nation before he takes his skills to compete for the Aggies of Texas A&M next fall." Coach Dan Seeberg

Harry Wood Prince, Trinity College, Hartford CT
"Harry brings together the speed of a sprinter with the endurance of a distance runner, talents that will make him an invaluable asset at Trinity College next year. His range—from the 1600-meters down to the 400-meters—means he can affect team competition in multiple ways. In 2021, Harry raced to an All-CCL selection for his performance in the 800-meters. He was an integral part of Loyola’s 4x400-meter relay team that claimed the sectional title before finishing 6th at the 3A IHSA Finals, earning him All-State honors. He returns for his senior year as one of the top middle-distance runners in the CCL." Coach Dan Seeberg

Volleyball
Casey McMenamin, Vassar College
"Casey McMenaminis a tremendously gifted student athlete who is a three year varsity starter. Last spring Casey led the team in digs and was the base of our serve receive. Casey was the catalyst for our offense and the anchor of the defense, was named to the CCL All Conference team, and was awarded the prestigious Robert Erlenbaugh "Outstanding Effort" award. I am excited for Casey to continue his academic and athletic career at Vassar College and look forward to all of his future accomplishments!" Coach Lionel Ebeling
