Tapping into the Network: College Alumni Forum

Loyola’s young alumni in college enjoyed a networking forum on the evening of Tuesday, January 4, in the Marillac Room. Open to alumni from the Classes of 2018 through 2021, the programming was sponsored by the President’s Leadership Council (PLC) and included a panel discussion with fellow Rambler alumni.
To kick off the event, Vice President for Alumni and Network Engagement Marty Jennings ’98 welcomed alumni and spoke about the power of the LA network and the importance of LinkedIn. He then introduced guest panelists Bo Murray ’12, associate at Slayton Search Partners; Adelaide Hake ’12, global HR business partner at Cushman & Wakefield; and Jack Penn ’14, business development manager at Good Foods Group, LLC.

Over the course of the hour long event, panelists discussed topics relevant to college students who will soon be venturing into the job market:
  • Accessing and capitalizing on the LA Network
  • Finding and utilizing professional mentorship
  • Securing that elusive internship
  • Understanding the PLC and how can it help after college graduation
“I had a great time discussing the power of networking with college Rambler alumni,” says Adelaide Hake ’12, who explained that one of the most important aspects of networking is consistency. “It takes more than attending one networking event to build professional connections and relationships.” She also emphasized the importance of the Loyola network. “Loyola alumni are always willing to help other Ramblers so never be afraid to reach out to someone for a conversation. Our community is unlike any other!”

VP Jennings said it was a great evening with valuable insight shared by the panelists: “They reminded attendees to never stop working. They encouraged Ramblers in college to forget the ‘application black hole’ and use the LA network to make connections and open doors."
