On Friday, November 5, members of the Loyola Academy community came together to celebrate the 64th annual President's Dinner. Approximately 400 alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends gathered at The Wintrust Building to honor The Dorothy M. and Edward J. Wehmer '72 Family with the 2021 Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award. Notably, the evening marked the final President’s Dinner under the leadership of Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, who has served as Loyola Academy's president since 2009. Fr. McGrath will begin his appointment as pastor of Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago in July.
Loyola Academy established the Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ, Award in 1963 to honor those who have provided distinguished service in the cause of youth. The award is named for Rev. Daniel A. Lord, SJ (1888–1955), who was an example of how one man, born more than a century ago, made a difference in the lives of many young people. Fr. Lord believed in young people, and he believed in ideas and in communication. He worked endlessly with the youth of his day and was regenerated by their vigor and their idealism.
Many donated gifts of time, talent and treasure to make our 2021 President's Dinner a spectacular success. In total, more than $500,000 was raised in support of the Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, Endowed Scholarship which supports current Loyola Academy students in need. Special thanks to the numerous underwriters and sponsors whose generous support helped to make this night possible.
In addition, we recognize the 2021 President's Dinner co-chairs for their leadership and guidance: Terry and Peter Broccolo '74, Pat and Angelo Bufalino, Mardi and Pat Hackett Jr. '69, Kathy and Jim Hickey '75, Mary and Roger Hickey '79, Hobie Murnane Jr. '75, Kathy and John Schreiber '64, Debbie and Quinn Stepan '78, Suzanne and Bill Sullivan '72 and Rev. John J. Wall.
