LADC Presents the 2021 Spring Dance Concert

The Loyola Academy Dance Company (LADC) Spring Dance Concert, directed by LADC Moderator and Dance Teacher Debbie Henslee, was a delightful example of creativity and collaboration. Congratulations to the following LADC members, who choreographed three original dances: Adriana Ahern ’24, Elizabeth Collins-Ward ’22, Gabby Martinez ’21, Ariana Nebolsky de Ochoa ’24, Lila Noble ’22, Maya Riley ’22 and Samarah Souffrant ’22.
Members also reworked a dance from last year by guest choreographer Mariterese Altosino of Hedwig Dance Company in Chicago. This dance was originally choreographed for the 2020 concert, which was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, LADC members revised the choreography to comply with Covid-19 requirements.

Dance classes participated, as well. Dance Beat and Dance Design (Temi Azeez ’23, Alexa Balsam ’23, Lily Buruk ’23 and Maria Stevens ’23) worked together to create a video called “Loyola! Dance Your Heart Out!” They traveled around the school filming the Loyola community dancing. This is a joyful dance highlighting students, faculty, staff and even the administration!

Honors Dance (Jilliana Alfano ’23, Grace Bertolucci ’22, Emma Brady ’21, Hannah Brennan ’22, Mary Jane Calk ’22, Ezmeralda Lopez ’21, Eva McHugh ’22, Allison Mocny ’23, Lila Noble ’22, Dani Powell ’22, Angelina Rannochio ’21 and Samarah Souffrant ’22) had the privilege of being filmed by the Filmmaking 1 class (Kaitlyn Baele ’22, Haley Bargo ’21, Megan Bradley ’22, Nick Braun ’21, Paul Clune ’21, Finn Cotter ’22, Jack Fallon ’23, Drew Jimenez ’22, Colin Kane ’21, Joseph Kohl ’21, Rory Lally ’21, Nora Lyons ’21, Maeve Malenock ’21, Tess McGowan-Henderson ’22, Angelica Milkie ’21, Sean Murray ’21, Ava Placio ’22, Nina Riley ’21, Dave Riordan ’22, Phoebe Rosa ’21, Maddie Snyder ’21, Molly Van ’21 and Spencer Werner ’22). This class is taught by Science Teacher Steve Lowe and Theater Teacher Jim Yost. Honors Dance created a mashup of ten short cuts of movement and the Filmmaking 1 class created an exciting dance video.

Also included in the concert was a dance previously performed by Dance Collective members Rachel Legara ’21, Amaiya McCord ’21 and KayLyn Traan ’21.

“Over forty-two students were involved in this year’s virtual Spring Dance Concert,” says Henslee. “The teamwork was so exciting...what a wonderful experience!”
