Loyola had two teams enter the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) college level competitions this year. Now that results are in, one of the teams did even better than last year's excellent showing—Meritorious 2019—and were named Finalists!
Loyola's team was the only high school team to make Finalist standing, and there are only six teams higher than them at the Outstanding Paper level. Loyola's team was made up of John "Jack" Nugent '20, Preston Hess '20and Peter Scheidt '22.
These three Ramblers, plus Claire O'Shaughnessy '20, did great on the HI-MCM, as well. They have recently worked on the International Math Modeling Competition (IMMC) and submitted their final paper on May 4. This was an invitation only competition. Results are forthcoming.
"These kids are doing amazingly well," says Coach and Math Faculty Mrs. Liz Van Lieshout. "No surprise given the individuals, but wow!!"
