Moving ahead with the next major campus improvement outlined in Our Strategic Vision for Loyola Academy in the 21st Century, a $25.7 million theater for the performing arts was approved by the Loyola Academy Board of Trustees On Tuesday, February 18.
Since the first Jesuit school opened nearly five centuries ago, the Jesuits have understood that the arts play an important role in the enrichment of the human spirit and the development of creative thinkers with the potential to transform society in positive ways.
Loyola Academy has carried this time-honored Jesuit tradition into the 21st century with a comprehensive program of study in three performing arts disciplines: dance, music and theater. Grounded in the Jesuit mission of educating the whole person—mind, body and spirit—this distinctive program has nurtured the talents of generations of Ramblers and provided opportunities for all students to develop an appreciation of the performing arts, regardless of their creative abilities and aspirations.
Now we are taking the performing arts at Loyola Academy to the next level. Strategically positioned at the northeast corner of the Loyola Academy campus, our soon-to-be-developed theater will be equipped with the following amenities to increase every Rambler's exposure to the performing arts.
A 28,000-square-foot building with integrated indoor and outdoor performance spaces designed to accommodate a wide variety of performing arts products
A dramatic entry lobby and a gallery space
A 550-seat proscenium theater with a balcony and orchestra pit
Offstage rehearsal and staging areas
A fully equipped scene shop
A green room
Makeup and dressing rooms
A director's office
State-of-the-art lighting and production technologies
An outdoor plaza that will function as an open-air performance stage and a gathering space for the Loyola community
Ground breaking is expected in October 2020 for an estimated 16 month-long project. Please visit goramblers.org/theater for more information.
