PLC Workshop Helps Alumni Develop Their Professional Brand

On Wednesday, January 29, twenty-five young alumni gathered at Lockton Companies in Chicago for a program titled “Focusing on Resume Building and Career Transitions,” hosted by Loyola’s President’s Leadership Council (PLC). Attendees were able to partake in interactive exercises, hear from experts in the field of management and recruitment, and learn how to utilize professional networks and tools to create a personal, professional brand that will help advance their career goals.
The event began with a networking reception with panelists Kathy Kilroy, president of The Mentor Group Inc. / CMP Midwest and executive coach and career mentor; and Tierney Remick, vice-chairman board and CEO services at Korn Ferry.

The panelists shared practical advice and tips—for example, always overdress and buy the coffee on an informational interview—and warned to not let building new and or side relationships affect your current relationships or job.

“With so many young Rambler alumni in different points of their careers, I thought the advice and insight Kathy and Tierney provided was invaluable,” says  Bo Murray ’12,who had a hand in planning the workshop with Brian Daly ’10. Both Bo and Brian are PLC executive board members. “They touched on so many important topics that I know we all come across at different stages in our career. I definitely took a lot away from the workshop and I'm looking forward to similar events in the future.”

This event was presented by the President’s Leadership Council (PLC), a diverse group of Loyola Academy alumni who serve as ambassadors for the Loyola Academy young alumni community. The purpose of the PLC is to advance the Loyola Academy mission while providing opportunities for faith development, service offerings, and networking and professional development for the Loyola Academy community.
