A Jesuit College Preparatory Experience

An Easter Message from Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ

May the joy of the Risen Christ be with you!

Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ
Now let the heavens be joyful,
Let earth her song begin:
Let the round world keep triumph,
And all that is therein;
Invisible and visible,
Their notes let all things blend,
For Christ the Lord is risen
Our joy that hath no end.
–SAINT JOHN OF DAMASCUS
(C.675–749)

Cover art for this card is a digital pen and ink drawing by AP student-artist ELIZABETH BALENTINE '19. Father McGrath asked Lizzy to use the Saint John of Damascus passage as a source of inspiration for her piece. Using herself as a model, Lizzy says she thought deeply about the passage and wanted to connect the Loyola student experience with the celebration of Easter in a musical way.

In addition to being an AP student-artist, Lizzy is a member of the Architecture Club, the Diversity Club, the Philosophy Club, the Adventure Games Club and the E-Gaming Club. She is a 2019 National Honor Society inductee. Her favorite classes are Chinese and Honors Architecture. Lizzy will graduate from Loyola in May 2019 and plans to study architecture in college this coming fall.
