New Vice President of Athletics and Fitness
Loyola Academy President Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, announced today that Genevieve Baisley Atwood has been named Loyola’s new vice president of athletics and fitness.
Ms. Atwood has served as Loyola’s interim athletic director since August 2018. In her new role as vice president of athletics and fitness, she will be responsible for the development, management, coordination and supervision of competitive athletic programming for all sports teams. Additionally, she will oversee the development and implementation of a new strategic plan for Loyola athletics and fitness.

“I am honored to accept Father McGrath’s offer to be Loyola’s vice president of athletics and fitness,” said Ms. Atwood. “I have tremendous respect for the outstanding tradition of excellence in athletics at Loyola Academy, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this great tradition. I am excited to work with the athletic department, coaches, student-athletes, parents and alumni to continue to grow and provide a meaningful experience in athletics and fitness for our students.”

In 2004, Ms. Atwood began serving at Loyola as a faculty member in the O’Shaughnessy Program. She was named assistant dean of student life overseeing co-curricular student clubs and activities in 2006, and, in 2008, she was promoted to lead Loyola’s Office of Admissions and Enrollment as its vice president. From 2005 to 2009, Ms. Atwood coached women’s cross country and track and field teams. She has been involved in Loyola’s Campus Ministry programs as a retreat leader and as a member of the Gesu Chapel Program team. She and her husband, Bob, have three children and live in Wilmette.
“I am grateful to the search committee that drove the process resulting in the appointment of Ms. Atwood,” said Father McGrath. “Committee members reviewed dozens of applicants with various backgrounds from across the country and conducted thoughtful interviews with the strongest candidates. They have provided a tremendous service to all of us at Loyola.” Members of the search committee included committee chair Mark Porcaro, college counseling department chair; John Holecek, assistant athletic director and head football coach; Emily Kane Flaherty, a Loyola alumna from the class of 2003; Susie McGovern, physical education department chair; Susan Webb, a Loyola trustee and graduate parent; and Joseph Roddy, a Loyola trustee, graduate parent and alumnus from the class of 1982.
More than 1,400 students participate in 34 different sports on over 80 teams at Loyola.
Loyola will begin a search for a new vice president of admissions and enrollment in the coming weeks.
