The Class of 1968 Celebrates 50th Reunion

Members of the Class of 1968 gathered to celebrate their 50th Rambler Reunion over a fun-filled weekend on September 7 and 8.
On Friday, alumni enjoyed a day of golf at the Westmoreland Country Club followed by a lively cocktail party where former classmates traded stories and laughs, recounting their days spent as Ramblers from 1964–1968.

On Saturday, the Class of 1968 received a special recognition between quarters of the Loyola vs. Mt. Carmel varsity football game. The 68 grads also enjoyed tours of the school from current students and a pregame tailgate with classmates and friends before attending a special Class Mass in the Loyola Chapel.

Loyola Academy President Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, SJ, concelebrated Mass alongside Rev. Michael Sparough, SJ, '68, which featured a special moment in which honor was given to classmates who have passed. After Mass, '68 alumni took a photo to commemorate the reunion. The class party began in the Student Center—which included a live performance by “Slick City Trio”—Lawrence Basil ’68, John Heller ’68 and William Murray ’68—that had everyone up off their feet.

“What surprised me was we have quite a few very gracious classmates that were molded by those Loyola years,” says Joseph DiClementi ’68. “Men of many backgrounds moving on to different careers and lifestyles. The love of each other was palpable yet the old jokes were still there.”

Mark Mitchell ’68 was moved by 1968 Class President Jim Rianoshek’s heartfelt speech on Saturday night and the rekindled bonds with fellow alumni.
